Michelle Simms is a communications director for Kaiser Permanente, one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans that serves more than 10 million members in eight states and the District of Columbia. Since joining the organization in 1997, she has held several communication roles and currently directs communication for the organization’s National Compliance, Ethics & Integrity Office. Her focus includes employee communication, external communication and issues management.
Prior to coming to Kaiser Permanente, she worked for major corporations in the petroleum refining and aerospace and defense industries, focusing on employee communications; technical editing and proposal management; marketing; media and external relations; and crisis communications.
Michelle holds a master’s degree in business organizational management from the University of La Verne and a bachelor’s degree in technical publications from San Jose State University.
Michelle has held several other IABC board roles, including past president of the IABC San Francisco Chapter. In addition to IABC, Michelle served as a board member for a private school and is an active member of two multicultural business resource groups for Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians. In her personal life, Michelle is a single mom of a college-aged son, and finds time for many activities, such as reading and roller skating.
